Doping and the establishment of proof : shared responsability between owner and trainer

The FEI tribunal rendered decisions during August 2024 concerning two doping affairs.

This decision of 30 August relates to a horse who called FAROON which was tested and found positive for a forbidden substance during endurance competition.

The horse FAROON was ridden by rider Mr. Jalam Singh Inder SINGH whose trainer is Mr. Alhareth Mohamed Jaafar ABDULRAHIM.

During the endurance race, the Horse FAROON was tested positively for Strychnine. Strychnine is an illegal substance and consequently it’s banned for all competitions. As a reminder, Strychnine is a drug which causes involuntary muscles contractions. That is why, it’s included in the list of illegal substances.

This is an argument that can be used in front of judges to limit his responsibility or even to take no responsibility.

This prohibition is set out in section 2.1 of the EADRS.

On the grounds of the EADRS article, the FEI court issued two decisions on August 30, 2024, condemning both the riderand the trainer of the horse for disqualification, loss of winning and a suspension period.

We can constat that the trainer and the owner have the same sanction, judges haven’t difference responsibility.

Consequently, the trainer and the owner have the same responsibility in this case.
